Valley Covenant Church
Who We Are
What We Believe!
  • In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.
  • In one God eternally existing in three persons; namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
  • That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.
  • That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and that repentance is commanded of God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.
  • That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus Christ.
  • In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the Word, and by the Holy Ghost.
  • Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people.
  • In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.
  • In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of the baptism of the Holy Ghost.
  • In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
  • Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.
  • In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.
  • In the premillennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.
  • In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous, and eternal punishment for the wicked.
To build THE CHURCH locally by putting Jesus Christ at the center of everything we do, and raising up Spirit empowered people who serve the purpose of God in their generation. To build THE CHURCH globally by partnering with native missionaries who are able to take the Gospel Message to their own people.

To impact our Valley for Jesus Christ by: 1.) Leading people to life transformation at the cross, 2.) Grounding them in sound biblical doctrine; 3.) And, challenging them to give away their time, talent, and treasure for God! To impact THE WORLD for Jesus Christ by: 1.) Sending others with the Gospel message where we cannot go, 2.) And, by going with the Gospel message where we can!

Our Story - From Reunion to Revival!
Our story at Valley Covenant is God’s story! It goes back to a class reunion in Waynesboro, Va. As part of that reunion, there was a worship service in Ridgeview Park. Musician, Kendall Layman, and Pastor, Jerry Steele…old friends and former pitchers for the Waynesboro Little Giants, led their classmates in worship and the word. As the service concluded, an unusual presence of God fell on everyone who was gathered in the Pavilion. It was not completely apparent at that moment what was happening, but in retrospect, that is when our new church was “birthed.” In the next few months, Kendall and his wife, April, along with their daughter Sarah, met with Pastor Jerry and his wife Darlene. At that time, the official Valley Covenant headquarters was at Cracker Barrel. As we talked, prayed, and dreamed, we soon began to realize that this was something God wanted, and we started our search for a place to meet. In January, 2015, Pastor Jerry shared this vision with long-time friend and mentor, Pastor Harold
Bare of Covenant Church in Charlottesville, Va. The dream of a new church plant in the Valley immediately resonated with Pastor Bare and the elders at Covenant. Our strategy was to plant a Covenant Campus in the Valley. Immediately we moved on securing a lease on a vacant building on West Main Street. In the meantime, Pastor Jerry resigned as Senior Pastor of his church after 20 years. He and Darlene moved by faith to Waynesboro, with only a promise from God that He was up to something big in the Valley! We immediately entered into a 3 month renovation project, converting the old office store into a church. With the full financial support of Covenant Church, Danny Bare led this project, and on July 5th, Valley Covenant had its grand opening. Since that day, attendance has continued to swell, with attendance already averaging well over 100 people. What an amazing thing God has done. We do not know all that the future holds, but we are confident that our God who has begun this amazing work will bring it to full completion as we labor together for Him. Our dream is that as many as our Lord shall call will become part of our ongoing story. We welcome you to be part of our “next chapter!”
